Fire! Fire!

What a fateful day! I was attending an in-house training when my thoughts were broken by the sounds of siren. Instead of fading away, the sound became louder and more sirens were sounded. Only when a colleague called us up did we realise that there was an emergency situation right opposite our office building!!

As with the nature of Malaysians (read: k-p-c), I ran excitedly towards the nearest window to catch a glimpse of the happenings and conveniently forgot to bring my digicam along. It was only later did I realise that I am missing out on some phototaking opportunities; but by then everyone's heartbeat has already steadied..

So it was a goldsmith shop on fire! At first the 'spectators' gathered around the burning building, some just meters away from it, oblivious to the dangers that they were exposed to. Luckily the police came soon afterwards and sealed off the area with their yellow tapes.

The roof tiles exploded towards the sky and quickly the fire spread towards the 1st floor windows..

Hey, pass me the pipe quick!

A fire engine came and raced to the backlane..

Dousing the flames...

Another fire engine came.. this time a voluntary team all the way from Guar Cempedak..

Meanwhile, on the other side, I saw another 3 fire engines (pic background).. incl. one from Merbok..

A fireman spraying down the burnt roof tiles..

In the aftermath.. Among the items salvaged include a sofa set and two fire extinguishers (!!).. As I did not venture into the backlane, I only managed to count up to 7 fire engines and a smaller support fire vehicle.

Meanwhile, I remembered having watched another building in burning flames during my younger days - it was a cinema and the situation much worse than this one. Guess what, the building is only located about 100 metres away! And here's all that's left of the cinema today, which has been turned into a car park:
